Bet Hayeled - Preschool at Associated

Bet Hayeled continues to be the most exciting place in Toronto for Jewish preschool education.  As we complete the fourth year of the Pre-school Enhancement project, generously funded by the Gerstein Family and the Parent Teacher Council, we have many exciting initiatives to share along with pride in the excellent instruction for all students in Bet Hayeled.

Hebrew Language development is a focus in Bet Hayeled and our students are listening to Hebrew, responding in Hebrew, following directions in Hebrew and learning in Hebrew! From Nursery to SK, Chalav U'Dvash, a communicative Hebrew language program designed by the Early Childhood and Hebrew Language Instruction Division of the Jewish Agency for Israel, which is completing its second year of implementation, is seeing astounding results.  Our students are able to communicate in short sentences and even follow 2-3 step directions in Hebrew.  The upcoming year, 2008/09, sees the launch of JK immersion and SK immersion classes at the Kamin Education Centre, based on the principles of Chalav U'Dvash, and following a successful pilot project at the Posluns Education Centre.

Both campuses have expanded their Resource Collections for literacy, math literacy and technology.  The bookmobile visits SK classes to offer students the chance to choose and read books independently at their own reading level. Parents work diligently with small groups of students on a wide variety of math and literacy games during "Literacy coaches." SMARTboards have now become a daily, engaging and interactive part of our classroom programs. Indeed, the students in Bet Hayeled have access to the best resources available.

The Centre for Diverse Learning is an integral part of Bet Hayeled.   Each child is an individual and, as such, as offer a wide range of services including facilitating early intervention, enrichment groups and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

We are also excited to introduce our new Bet Hayeled Report Cards which have been created to be more "parent friendly" and clear in terms of curriculum expectations and learning opportunities for our students.   The home-school connection is an important part of Bet Hayeled.  In order to include parents in the learning process, Bet Hayeled has provided monthly parents resource brochures, early years holiday information for each Jewish Holiday to support families as they celebrate at home, and a number of parent education evenings including Snuggle Up and Read, Because We Love Shabbat and Learning to Read for the Early Years.

We look forward to welcoming you into Bet Hayeled, the first step on your journey through this amazing school.
