CENTENNIAL SEFER TORAH

“Write a letter in the Torah and feel the breath of eternity”
– RABBI CHARLES GRYSMAN, RABBI IN-RESIDENCE, ASSOCIATED HEBREW SCHOOLS

We joyfully invite our students, parents, alumni and those in the community to fulfill the mitzvah of “writing” a new Sefer Torahin honour of Associated’s Centennial. The dedication of the new Sefer Torahwill include a series of educational programmes with the involvement of the faculty, Rabbis and the Sofer (scribe). Each student will have the opportunity to participate in a demonstration with the Sofer. In addition, a Siyum (Conclusion Ceremony) and a Hachnasat Sefer Torah (Dedication Ceremony) will take place in September of 2008. We believe that this will be one of the most meaningful and beautiful projects that our school has ever undertaken.

Donations to the Sefer Torahwill range from the minimum donation of $18 for a letter to $25,000 for the Torah cover (mantel). Many other giving opportunities are also available.

Associated’s Centennial Forest in Israel

We are pleased to announce that in honour of Associated Hebrew Schools 100th and Israel’s 60th anniversary, we are planning to establish the Associated Hebrew Schools Centennial Forest in Israel through the Jewish National Fund. From here on, all trees purchased through the School will be planted in our own
dedicated forest.

By planting trees in the AHS Centennial Forest, you will be honouring both of these momentous milestones! We encourage you to participate by purchasing trees this year, at a cost of $18 each. To take part, please contact the JNF at 416-638-7200 and request that your tree be part of the AHS Centennial Forest.

Plans are underway to have an inaugural ribbon-cutting ceremony with Associated Alumni at the Associated Hebrew Schools’ Centennial Forest in October. If you are AHS alumnus residing in Israel we hope that you will join us for this special ceremony and commemorate this special day with us.
